What is Web2Learn?

18 Nov

A lot of Europeans are going through a rough patch these days and the improvement of the situation seems to be far away. High unemployment stemming from the economic crisis is the cause of increasing feeling of frustration in the society. This is particularly true in the case of families with children. Every parent’s sole concern is to ensure the best conceivable conditions for upbringing and development of their children. Parent’s main aim should be to make sure that their children grow into educated and successful people as well as work on their personal and professional development.

The current situation in Europe makes a lot of demands on everyone. Nobody should content themselves with „having at least a kind of a job“ or „not being unemployed“. People should continually try their best to develop their skills and knowledge. In fact it’s the economic crisis that should motivate everybody to learn.

High unemployment which affects mainly families with children justifies the existence of the Web2Learn project. It is coordinated by the PAEPSM organization from Athens, Greece. Other organizations that are involved in the project come from Turkey, Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic.

The partners of the project aim to fill adults in on the ways of using Web 2.0 on-line tools for personal and professional development purposes and to create better learning experiences for children. It is also expected that the project will raise awareness on the benefits implied from using Web 2.0 tools. The outcome of this ambitious project will be a multilingual e-learning environment specifically aimed at parents. This learning community will enable parents across Europe, especially unemployed ones, to exchange ideas and experiences.

The partners of the project first got together in Athens in October. Excellent organization and creative atmosphere best describe the work of the project team. The partners finalized the details in terms of the form of the project logo and the communication platform. The main point of the agenda was discussion about the Web 2.0 tools which are the backbone of the project. The next meeting will be held in in Italy in February 2013. The partners will prepare a collection of tools, the best of which will be included in the practical guide to the project.

See you in Italy!
